Kitchen and Bath Updating

Kitchens and baths present unique challenges in antique homes. The existing mechanicals may need total updating and structural sub-floor deficiencies often exist. Renovations can be as minor as new tile and fixtures or major reorientation including partition removal and structural framing work. There is always a fine balance between modern amenities and period feel when incorporating kitchen and bath design into an antique home. Some kitchens have been fabricated with cabinets built on site and recycled millwork. Wood floors either natural or painted can help soften the look. Antique glass can be used in upper cabinets. Period appropriate hardware can be matched to the rest of the house. Modern lighting can also be installed while maintaining the homes original ambiance.
